Sighting Description: Adult turkey vulture (no visible tags) feeding on rabbit roadkill, ~ 30 ft from car. It was cautious of the car, & flew away before capturing a photo.

Sighting Description: We were doing our first Pigeon Guillemot survey of the season on the
beach north of Fort Casey. North of our colony there was a flurry of eagles and we walked
to check it out. There was a Stellar sea lion carcass being feasted upon by almost 2 dozen
eagles including a white, leucistic? eagle.

Sighting Description: American Bittern harassed by Merlin.
I heard the Bittern “singing” but only knew its location by a dark Merlin repeatedly making
parabolic dives on it. Why??

Sighting Description: Goshawk In juvenile plumage. Joe and I saw a large accipiter, Red-
tailed Hawk size, with a long tail, pronounced white supercilium, and a slower flight than
a Cooper’s Hawk. Flying west.

Sighting Description: I saw a female Yellow-headed Blackbird near Freund Marsh in Oak
Harbor. It preened in the open near the road for several minutes before moving out of
sight.

Sighting Description: Clear weather, late afternoon, light out. Bird landed on the side of
a wooden post of a split rail fence in proximity but not on various bird feeders. Bird was
observed from about 15 feet away. About the size of our local flickers, maybe a bit less.
Woodpecker / flicker type bill. "Walked" vertically a few steps up the fence post, pecked a
bit, then flew off. Coloration was distinctive. Much of plumage was black but with a thick
white stripe, somewhat roughly bordered, on the side. Definite yellow on the front. Looking
at the bird from behind the bird's right shoulder, so to speak, the coloration was black,
then white long area, then yellow. Haven't seen the bird since.
Location: Was observed in Highlands area of Langley, which is near Al Anderson and
Fairgrounds roads.
Confirmation: I did not have time to get a photograph. It was there less than a minute then
flew off. Since then I've looked at dozens of photos of woodpecker type birds including
sapsuckers, flickers, etc. My wife is an avid birder so I'm somewhat competent myself. In
all the photos I looked at online and in books, the only North American bird I saw that
looked like my sighting was the Williamson's sapsucker.

Sighting Description: Red-neckled phalarope female resting and preening on a piece of wood
on the mudflats on the east end of the lake near the east entrance to the Keystone Spit.
